Happy Birthday, Lindsay!

Can you believe Lindsay is 24 yrs. old?!  Here she is with one of her gifts (these are straight out of the camera so that's Rachel's elbow you see!).

We went out to dinner for Lindsay's birthday and then went to Cafe Latte and we each picked out our own piece of cake.  It was a  little unorthodox, but delicious nonetheless.

Chloe's first Halloween!

You'd never know by looking at her, but Chloe's first Halloween was a harrowing experience!  Lindsay and Tim took Chloe to Petsmart to buy her some new toys, (and, I suspect, so Lindsay could buy her a costume!) and a 7 yr. old lab came up to her, sniffed her, and bit her face.  He gave her a deep puncture wound on her face and a more superficial wound under her chin.  She was bleeding, and we could tell the wound was deep, so we took her in to see the vet.  She's on 10 days of antibiotics and we have to wash the wounds twice a day.  Needless to say, Chloe won't be going to Petsmart anymore!

Our baby is 20! Happy Birthday, Rachel!

Lindsay had some extra time in the class that she was teaching on Rachel's birthday so she asked the kids to make cards for Rachel.  Some of the kids were very creative, and some got together to make a card with tesselations!  Very creative!

This was the third time Rachel had cupcakes on her birthday.  A friend of hers bought her a cupcake for lunch, her Admissions Ambassadors group at the university surprised her with cupcakes, and then she came home at night and what did we have for her?  Cupcakes!

Here are some more recent pictures of Chloe starting with the most recent at the top.  She is 43 lbs. now and 5 months old.  Last night Chloe graduated from Puppy Kindergarten which she loved!

Move-in day at the University of Minnesota - 9/4/2010

The dorm!  We moved Rachel in on Sept. 4th to begin her sophomore year at the University of Minnesota.

Rachel was selected last year to be an Admissions Ambassador for the university, and she continues to do it this year.  This is a volunteer position where she gives 1 1/2 hour tours of the university to prospective students and their families.  She usually gives a tour every other week all academic year long.  Rachel is also volunteering once a week at Amplatz Children's Hospital, and she is working for the University making calls to alumni.  She joined Gamma Phi Beta sorority this year and has been enjoying participating in all of the sorority activities!

Chloe and Riley

On Friday, my friend Sue brought her 4 1/2 yr. old chocolate lab named Riley over to meet Chloe.  They played outside for a few minutes, but it was hot, so we came inside.  Riley was checking out Chloe's toys when she found Chloe's rawhide and decided that she'd like to chew on that for awhile.  Chloe was trying to figure out what to do next!

Riley was hot and just wanted to relax a little, but Chloe kept trying to get her to play with her!   Riley was so sweet... she let Chloe jump on her and make her crazy, and she never got angry with her!

Riley decided she'd take a drink from Chloe's water bowl,  and Chloe was very polite and let her!

And then Chloe decided she'd get in and get a drink too!

We gave Riley a bowl of water after they were outside playing, and Chloe decided she wanted to drink from that bowl too.  Riley was very kind with Chloe and just let her do what she wanted!

This was Chloe after Riley went home! She was tired, but she really loves having friends over to play!

Chloe and Blue

Chloe has been meeting some new friends!  My friend Paula has a yellow lab puppy who is about 2 months older than Chloe, and she (and her son Matt) brought their dog Blue over to play with Chloe.  At first Chloe wasn't sure what to think of Blue, but after a couple of minutes they were playing like old friends!

I think they were making plans to get together again!

CHLOE!

We brought Chloe home on June 25th, but she's been keeping us busy so I haven't had a chance to sit down and update this blog.  Anyway, I'm posting some pictures so you can see how much she has grown in her short life.  She was 11.4 lbs. on June 25th, and she goes back to the vet on Friday.  We think she has gained a good 4 - 5 lbs. in the two weeks we've had her!  The picture at the top of the post was taken 5/26 when she was 2 1/2 weeks old.  The next one was taken on June 15th when she was 5 1/2 weeks.  The third one down was taken 6/26 when she was 7 weeks, and the next one down was taken the day after.  The bottom picture is from today, 7/7, and she is 2 months old today.

Our Baby Chick Has Come Back To The Nest!

Last Friday we went to the university to move Rachel out of her dorm for the summer.  Her first year of college just flew by!  We're hoping the summer months won't go so quickly.  We will move her in to her new dorm room in September and then we have to move her out again in December since she will be spending second semester of next year studying in the south of France!  Goodbye, Pioneer Hall S286!

 

Lindsay Got A New Car!!

Yesterday Lindsay bought her first new car!  She bought a 2010 Honda Civic LX.  To say she loves her new car would be an understatement!  I think I'll just let the pictures tell the story! 

Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!

This is the quilt I started for Rachel when she was in 4th grade! I finally finished it. Lindsay is holding it up again for me.. sorry about the horrible lighting!

Here is the t-shirt quilt I made from Lindsay's Kappa Alpha Theta t-shirts. Lindsay is standing on the coffee table in the family room holding it up!

As some of you may remember, I purchased a sewing machine about 10 yrs. ago and signed up for a beginner's quilting class. I made a quilt in the class and then quilted it on my own, but I never finished it - all it needed was the binding sewn on. Anyway, fast forward to this past summer when Rachel decided she wanted me to make her a quilt for her dorm room, and finally, I finished a quilt! Lindsay had many t-shirts from her college sorority that she no longer wore, but didn't want to get rid of, so we decided to make her a t-shirt quilt. I made one other quilt right after the beginner's class that was supposed to be for Rachel's bed when she was about 9 or 10 yrs. old, but I never finished it either. So... I took the t-shirt quilt and the one I made for Rachel to be machine quilted, and I had the gal sew in the binding for my first quilt. I have now finished the t-shirt quilt, the one I started for Rachel years ago, and I am in the process of sewing the binding on my first one and then I will have finished the four quilts I have ever made!
